The renowned crooner reportedly passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2024.
George Darko, whose career spanned several decades, made a lasting impression on Ghanaian music and beyond, gaining him respect within the business.
The music industry was shocked to learn of his death, and both fans and fellow musicians paid heartfelt homage to his incredible accomplishments.
George, who was born in 1951, developed his skill and embraced the ancient rhythms of Highlife music in the colorful streets of Ghana, where his musical career got its start. His distinctive blend of Western influences and Highlife tunes, which gave rise to the genre's nickname, "Burger Highlife," won over listeners all over the world.
His popular songs, which celebrated Ghanaian culture and identity, including "Akoo Te Brofo," "Moni Palava," "Odo Colour," and "Ghana-First." These songs went on to become generational anthems.
Mr. Darko, whose stool name was Nana Apem Darko I, was the Tufuhene of Akropong before he passed away. He has been active in the music industry since the late 1960s and has performed as a guitarist, singer, composer, and songwriter.
